My reflections on SailPoint Navigate events over the years

As a member of the identity security community, the significance of events in shaping perspectives on identity security cannot be overstated. Events have also influenced career navigation and provided opportunities to envision future roles within the community. They have fostered humility by highlighting the challenges faced by community members and offered a comprehensive understanding of diverse viewpoints on identity security.

Among these events, SailPoint events hold particular significance. SailPoint has been a valuable partner for both me and Hexadius over the years. The opportunities provided by SailPoint have been instrumental in our achievements, for which we are profoundly grateful. The return of SailPoint Navigate in Singapore this year is especially exciting. It is gratifying that my team at Hexadius has the opportunity to sponsor this event alongside SailPoint.

The following paragraphs offer an insider’s perspective on what transpires at SailPoint events and specifically what to expect at SailPoint Navigate, based on extensive experience. I am sure that these reflections will resonate with both first-time attendees and veterans alike.

My first experience with a SailPoint event was when I attended the SailPoint Identity Day 2021 in Singapore. A part of the global series of events focused on the importance of identity security, the event was held on 21 Oct 2021 and included many SailPoint clients as well as IAM practitioners from the region. The event emphasized the critical role of identity security in protecting organizations from identity-related security incidents. As an attendee, I gained valuable insights into managing security risks, reducing attack surfaces, and enhancing overall security posture. The event also highlighted how advanced identity security frameworks can drive business efficiency, trust, and growth.

SailPoint decided to bring its prestigious global Navigate event to Singapore in 2022. The first SailPoint Navigate event in Singapore was organized on November 8, 2022 at the Park Royal Collection Marina Bay and marked the beginning of SailPoint’s regional focus on identity security in Southeast Asia. Not only did Hexadius (formerly known as Turnkey Consulting Singapore) sponsor the event, but I was also one of the speakers at the event. I led a highly engaging session titled ‘How to Start and Build a Successful IAM Program’. Some of the key highlights of the session are as follows:

  • Foundational Strategies: Essential steps for initiating an Identity and Access Management (‘IAM’) program, emphasizing the importance of a strong foundation1.
  • Implementation Best Practices: Practical insights and best practices for implementing IAM solutions effectively, tailored to different organizational needs.
  • Case Studies: Real-world case studies that illustrated successful IAM implementations, providing attendees with actionable takeaways.

Please feel free to contact me for a copy of the slides used for the session.

The SailPoint Navigate event returned to Singapore in 2023 and was held on October 24, 2023, at the Mandarin Oriental Marina Bay. The 2023 event focused on the theme ‘Identity Security Accelerated’ and brought together more than 2,000 industry leaders, experts, and stakeholders to discuss the latest advancements and challenges in identity security. Some of the notable speakers included SailPoint CEO Mark McClain and President of Worldwide Field Operations Matt Mills who shared insights on the future of identity security.

Among all the great sessions, and panel discussions, the key highlight for me was the fireside chat event where one of our client’s IAM Head shared his experience and feedback on his IAM journey with SailPoint. As a service partner, it was a proud moment for the entire team, and we celebrated it together with the client and the SailPoint team. I also got an opportunity to go to the stage to receive yet another ‘Delivery Admiral’ on behalf of the entire Hexadius team.

Among all the sessions and knowledge sharing, the key attraction of SailPoint Navigate event is the networking opportunity with various IAM professionals. I met multiple IAM professionals across organizations, service partners and SailPoint team from different countries and we shared our experiences, challenges and success mantras for successful IAM programs/ projects. We exchanged notes and made friendships, which outlasted the one-day event.

Now that the 3rd and latest edition of SailPoint Navigate is back in Singapore, I am excited that Hexadius is again going to be sponsoring and exhibiting at the event. I look forward to another successful event, which is always a comprehensive platform for learning, networking, and advancing the field of identity security.

I am sure that Hexadius will participate and add substantial value to the event, helping to advance the collective understanding of identity security. Look for me or the Hexadius team at the event.
